Volunteer Opportunities for Divers

Volunteering as a scuba diver for a marine conservation project is the perfect opportunity for all passionate divers out there and for those who want to become one. As our marine ecosystems are extremely endangered, you can use your scuba diving skills to support research and marine biology efforts by becoming a volunteer.

Help to restore coral reefs, carry out surveys of endangered animals and educate tourists and locals. From the Bahamas to the Philippines or Australia, all these dream destinations are looking for scuba diving volunteers to help them protect our oceans.

Coral Farming Assistant
Sihanoukville, Cambodia

Come join our marine conservation team to help build and maintain new coral rock beds on our coral nursery & then transplant onto the reef when they are mature.
Your Role as a Volunteer

Volunteers play the most important role to help keep the project alive and also to help keep the corals on our nursery alive. It is really amazing to see the huge impact that the coral nursery has already had in the ocean.
The volunteers have an amazing experience & leave us with some great memories. If you don't have your Scuba certifications we can organise for you to do it at an extra discounted cost to normal course prices. Just let us know & we will send you prices.  Why not come join us on the project. You won't regret it
About the Program

On our marine conservation Scuba diving volunteer program you will be focusing mainly on water based activities such as coral farming, reef clean ups and seahorse spotting or survey dives.

When the coral farm has new coral fragments (nubbins) in it, then regular cleaning is required to keep the algae off them. Once they are healthy enough, then new frames can be made and new broken corals that we find from the natural reef can be added. We are taking already broken coral fragments and giving them a second chance to survive at our nursery. Some frames will remain on our nursery permanently as fish are using them as homes for their juveniles.

Reef cleans are important too to clear off any trash and sometimes old fishing nets off the natural reefs. Seahorse surveys can also be done here or even just seahorse spotting dives to try to find them and identify what species they are.

Whale Shark Conservation & Diving
Placencia, Belize

Join an award winning project and become part of an active research team. Learn to dive or further your skills while doing hands-on conservation projects!
Your Role as a Volunteer

Nobody can guarantee a Whale Shark encounter however; if you are lucky enough to experience a Whale Shark you must record as much information as possible, and take photos (without a flash). Displaying a myriad of pale blue spots and stripes, each whale shark has its own unique pattern. Divers and snorkelers are asked to photograph and make notes about each whale shark’s individual skin pattern, size and other identifying factors. Following each sighting, divers will be asked to submit the sightings data and images to an online database.
Please note that not all of the  surveys/activities are guaranteed to be part of your specific standard conservation program trip. Some are seasonal and/or are dependent upon length of your trip, dive experience, and numbers of participants. For more details ,please contact us .

The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef in Belize attracts one of the largest concentrations of whale sharks in the world. Whale shark season/migration in Belize runs March-June; however, we do spot them year-round. The presence of the whale sharks is dependent on the health of the spawning fish aggregations. ReefCI actively participate in working on the spawning fish in the area.
